BabyTok

BabyTok uses short, engaging videos on social media to help caregivers support their baby’s earliest communication and social development. Grounded in neuroscience and developmental research,BabyTok focuses on the first years of life—a critical period when babies’ brains are especially ready to learn during everyday interactions with their caregivers.

Through short-form videos on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, the BabyTok Project shares practical, evidence-based information about how caregivers can nurture early language learning through back-and-forth interactions, everyday routines, and responsive communication strategies. The project aims to make this information accessible to all families by meeting caregivers where they already seek information and support—on social media.

The BabyTok team includes experts in early communication, family-centered intervention, and social media research. Together, they are developing and testing this innovative approach to determine whether social media can effectively increase caregiver knowledge and confidence in supporting early communication. Findings from the pilot study will inform future large-scale research to expand and refine this low-cost, scalable strategy for promoting early learning.
